Increases acidity by increasing free hydrogen ion concentration.

Severe hepatic or renal dysfunction.

Warnings and precautions

Ammonia toxicity (diaphoresis, altered breathing, bradycardia, arrhythmias, retching, twitching, and coma) may occur. Use with caution in primary respiratory acidosis or pulmonary insufficiency.
