Mechanism of action
Therapeutic use
Temporary relief of pain associated with oral mucosa. As a local anesthetic prior to laryngoscopy, bronchoscopy, or endotracheal intubation. Used topically for temporary relief of pain associated with oral mucosa, skin, episiotomy, or anogenital lesions.
Pregnancy and lactiation implications
Safe use of dyclonine during pregnancy not established. The drug should be used in pregnant women only when potential benefits justify possible risks to the fetus.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to dyclonine or any component of the formulation.
Warnings and precautions
Use with caution in infection or traumatized mucosa in the area of application, in order to avoid rapid systemic absorption. Use with caution in shock or heart block. Use with caution in known allergy to dyclonine. Possible hypersensitivity reactions to anesthetics (e.g. cutaneous lesions, urticaria, swelling, and edema). Sensitization occurs rarely. Systemic toxicity, including adverse CNS and cardiovascular effects, may occur (with excessive dosage or rapid absorption of the drug). Systemic (e.g. CNS, cardiovascular) effects possible with excessive dosage or rapid absorption. May impair swallowing and enhance danger of aspiration (with topical administration).
