Pregnancy and lactiation implications

Except in severe cases of maternal anemia, the fetus achieves normal iron stores regardless of maternal concentrations. Amount of iron in breast milk generally not influenced by maternal iron status.

Unlabeled use

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to iron salts or any component of the formulation. Hemochromatosis, hemolytic anemia.

Warnings and precautions

Severe iron toxicity may occur in overdose, particularly when ingested by children. Avoid in peptic ulcer, enteritis, or ulcerative colitis, in patients receiving frequent blood transfusions, or in premature infants until vitamin E stores are replenished.
