Drug combinations

Chemistry

Flavocoxid: Consists of a proprietary blend of two types of flavonoids, Free-B-Ring flavonoids (baicalin) and flavans (catechin), from Scutellaria baicalensis and Acacia catechu, respectively. CAS-21967-41-9 (baicalin); CAS-154-23-4 (catechin).

Pharmacologic Category

Nonsteroidal Anti-inflammatory Agents; Cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) Inhibitors. (ATC-Code: M01AH).

Mechanism of action

Exerts anti-inflammatory properties through nonspecific inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX/PTGS) and lipoxygenase (ALOX5) pathways. May also possess general analgesic and antioxidant/anticytokine properties.

Therapeutic use

Clinical dietary management of osteoarthritis, including associated inflammation.

Pregnancy and lactiation implications

There are no adequate, well-controlled studies in pregnant women. Not recommended during lactation.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to flavocoxid or any component of the formulation.

Warnings and precautions

May cause GI bleeding or ulceration (use with caution in history of GI disorders). Avoid concomitant use with NSAIDs.
