Pharmacologic Category

Diagnostic Agents; Imaging Agents; Iodinated Contrast Media. Radiological/Contrast Media (Ionic, High Osmolality). Sodium (^125^I)iothalamate. (ATC-Code: V09CX03).

Mechanism of action

Therapeutic use

Arthrography, cerebral angiography, cranial computerized angiotomography, digital subtraction angiography, direct cholangiography, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography, excretory urography, peripheral arteriography, urography, venography. Contrast enhancement of computed tomographic images (solution for injection). Retrograde cystography and cystourethrography (solution for instillation).

Pregnancy and lactiation implications

In general, iodinated contrast media agents are avoided during pregnancy unless essential for diagnosis. Enters breast milk (use caution).

Unlabeled use

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to any component of the formulation. Intrathecal administration. Avoid intravascular use of solution for instillation.
