Mechanism of action
Therapeutic use
Induction and maintenance of general anesthesia.
Pregnancy and lactiation implications
Adverse fetal effects in animal studies. There are as yet no adequate studies in pregnant women. Use caution during pregnancy or lactation.
Unlabeled use
Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to isoflurane or any component of the formulation. History of malignant hyperthermia.
Warnings and precautions
Cardiovascular effects (might cause decrease in blood pressure, cardiac steal, reflex tachycardia). May cause decreased hepatic, renal and splenic blood flow. Hepatitis reported (rarely). Risk of hyperkalemia (increased in pediatric patients with underlying neuromuscular disease). Possible elevation in CPK and myoglobinuria. Might increase intracranial pressure. Malignant hyperthermia (avoid use in susceptibility to malignant hyperthermia). Respiratory depression.
