Thrombotic action. Thrombus formed by causing inflammation of vein’s intima. Occlusion secondary to fibrous tissue and thrombus results in obliteration of vein.
Therapeutic use
Treatment of small, uncomplicated varicose veins of lower extremities.
Pregnancy and lactiation implications
Animal reproduction studies not performed with morrhuate sodium. Should be used during pregnancy only when potential benefits justify possible risks to fetus.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to morrhuate sodium or any component of the formulation. Arterial disease, thrombophlebitis.
Warnings and precautions
Anaphylactoid and allergic reactions have occurred. Sloughing and necrosis of tissue may occur following extravasation. Test dose should be given 24 hours before full-dose treatment.
