Pharmacologic Category

Antiemetics, Miscellaneous. (ATC-Code: A04AD11).

Mechanism of action

May be due to effect on cannabinoid receptors (CB~1~) within CNS.

Therapeutic use

Treatment of refractory nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy.

Pregnancy and lactiation implications

Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Use in breast-feeding not recommended.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to nabilone, cannabinoids or tetrahydrocannabinol.

Warnings and precautions

May cause tachycardia and/or orthostatic hypotension. May impair physical or mental abilities. Use with caution in history of drug abuse or acute alcoholism (potential for drug dependency exists). Tolerance, psychological and physical dependence may occur with prolonged use. Use with caution in mania, depression, or schizophrenia. Effects may be potentiated when used with other psychoactive drugs, sedatives and/or ethanol.
