Pharmacologic Category
EENT Preparations; Antiallergic Agents. Mast Cell Stabilizer. (ATC-Code: R01AC07; R03BC03; S01GX04).
Mechanism of action
Inhibits activation of and mediator release from a variety of inflammatory cell types associated with asthma including eosinophils, neutrophils, macrophages, mast cells, monocytes, and platelets. Inhibits release of histamine, leukotrienes, and slow-reacting substance of anaphylaxis. Inhibits development of early and late bronchoconstriction responses to inhaled antigen.
Therapeutic use
Maintenance therapy in mild to moderate bronchial asthma. Treatment of itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis.
Pregnancy and lactiation implications
Use with caution in pregnant and nursing women.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to nedocromil or any component of the formulation.
Warnings and precautions
Should not be used for reversal of acute bronchospasm. Contains benzalkonium chloride, which may be absorbed by contact lenses.
