Pharmacologic Category

Diagnostic Agent; Pituitary Function. (ATC-Code: V04CJ02).

Mechanism of action

Increases release of thyroid-stimulating hormone from anterior pituitary.

Therapeutic use

Adjunct in diagnostic assessment of thyroid function, and adjunct to other diagnostic procedures in pituitary or hypothalamic dysfunction. Also causes release of prolactin from pituitary and is used to detect defective control of prolactin secretion.
