Pharmacologic Category
Antineoplastic Agents; Plant Alkaloids and Other Natural Products. (ATC-Code: L01CB02).
Mechanism of action
A topoisomerase II inhibitor, appears to cause DNA strand breaks by inhibition of strand-passing and DNA ligase action.
Therapeutic use
Treatment of acute lymphocytic leukemia, small cell lung cancer.
Pregnancy and lactiation implications
Use with caution during pregnancy. Not recommended in nursing women.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to teniposide or any component of the formulation. Pregnancy.
Warnings and precautions
Severe myelosuppression may occur. For I.V. use only; may cause local tissue necrosis or thrombophlebitis if extravasation occurs. Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis-like reactions, reported. Product contains benzyl alcohol, associated with «gasping syndrome» in neonates. Product contains about 43% alcohol.
