Pharmacologic Category

Antituberculosis Agents; Salicylate. (ATC-Code: J04AA01).

Mechanism of action

Competitive antagonism with para-aminobenzoic acid (PABA). Disrupts plate biosynthesis in sensitive organisms.

Therapeutic use

Adjunctive treatment of tuberculosis.

Pregnancy and lactiation implications

Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Not recommended during lactation.

Unlabeled use

Crohn’s disease.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to aminosalicylic acid or any component of the formulation.

Warnings and precautions

Increased risk of salicylate sensitivity in patients with sensitivity to tartrazine dyes, nasal polyps, or asthma. Use with caution in gastric ulcer, hepatic or renal impairment.
