Pharmacologic Category

Skin and Mucous Membrane Agents; Anti-infectives; Scabicides and Pediculicides. Antipruritic. (ATC-Code: D04AX).

Mechanism of action

Active against Sarcoptes scabiei (mite which causes scabies), Pediculus humanus var. capitis (head louse), and Pediculus humanus var. corporis (body louse). Mechanisms of action are not known.

Therapeutic use

Scabies (Sarcoptes scabiei). Pruritus.

Pregnancy and lactiation implications

Animal reproduction studies not conducted. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Excretion in breast milk unknown.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to crotamiton or any component of the formulation. Primary irritation response to topical medications.

Warnings and precautions

For external use only. Should not be applied to acutely inflamed or raw skin.
