Pharmacologic Category

Mechanism of action
Stimulates receptors in organs and tissues to promote growth and development of male sex organs and maintains secondary sex characteristics in androgen-deficient males.
Therapeutic use
Hypogonadism. Delayed puberty. Impotence and climacteric symptoms. Palliative treatment of metastatic breast cancer.
Pregnancy and lactiation implications
Contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to methyltestosterone or any component of the formulation. In males, known or suspected breast or prostate carcinoma. Pregnancy.
Warnings and precautions
Prolonged use and/or high doses may cause peliosis hepatis or liver cell tumors. Use with caution in breast cancer (might cause hypercalcemia by stimulating osteolysis), in diabetes mellitus, in conditions influenced by edema (e.g. cardiovascular disease, migraine, seizure disorder, renal impairment), in hepatic impairment, and in elderly patients. May accelerate bone maturation in children. Discontinue with evidence of mild virilization in women.
