Pharmacologic Category

Cosmetic Agent, Implant. (ATC-Code: G01AD01).

Mechanism of action

Increases dermal thickness by causing local reaction leading to increase in collagen deposits. Eventually degraded and undergoes resorption.

Therapeutic use

Other Miscellaneous Therapeutic Agents. Restoration and/or correction of facial lipoatrophy in HIV.

Pregnancy and lactiation implications

Safety for use during pregnancy or breast-feeding not established.

Contraindications

Hypersensitivity to poly-L-lactic acid or any component of the formulation.

Warnings and precautions

Photosensitivity. Use with caution in patients on anticoagulants or antiplatelet medications. Avoid I.V. injection (may lead to occlusion, infarction, or embolism). Not for use if skin inflammation or infection exists in or near treatment area. Avoid use with implants.
